Can You Beat the Flu

by Raelle Connolly

Everyone has the flu this year and it is particularly nasty one this season, but you can beat it you are smart about it. No I don't mean the Flu vaccine!

If everyone that has it stayed home and got over it then we would get it yeah right.

I unfortunately got caught this year as I was a bit run down and bang it got me.

I battled through with Jungle Juice and Kyolic Garlic Capsules. Garlic is a natural antibiotic and if you take enough of it you can kick the bot right into outer space.

I take 1 garlic capsule every day as a rule, if I feel a bot coming on I dose up taking 2 capsules every 4 hours and knock it over in just a couple of days.

Garlic bulb is also an option but don't cook it, as the medicinal powers are then gone.

The main actions of garlic are: antibiotic; antiseptic; anti-fungal; cholesterol lowering; blood clotting reduction; blood pressure lowering; worm expulsion; and blood sugar reduction. Wow this little vegetable kicks a punch ah!

The compounds which give raw garlic its pungent smell and taste are also responsible for its many health benefits. The pungent quality of garlic is destroyed when it is cooked as are a lot of its healthful and medicinal properties. The best garlic health benefits are obtained when garlic is raw – so eating garlic raw is best.

Many people shy away from raw garlic because of the smell and taste, understandably but small regular quantities will greatly benefit your health, by increasing immunity and preventing heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

Garlic contains the volatile oils, alliin, allicinase and allicin. It is believed that when a fresh clove is crushed alliin is released it is then broken down by allicinase and becomes allicin, which has antibiotic qualities.

Garlic is the best remedy for coughs and colds during winter months and a garlic tea will speed up the recovery time by half.

For babies and young children, crush a garlic clove and rub on the soles of their feet, then put socks on.

Onions are also great for combating colds and flu. If someone in the family has the flu it is inevitable that the rest of the family will get it ah, well if you cut an onion in half and place this in the room where the sick family member is, it will take up all the nasties that are floating invisibly in the room.

Replace and discard the onion daily and the rest of the family should be spared.

Grapefruit Extract is also a natural antibiotic, this can be obtained at your local health shop and some pharmacies.

Warning it tastes disgusting, but it packs a whopping punch and will shorten the life of you illness by half. Mix it with fruit juice to disguise the taste, or just harden up.

This recipe came my way many years ago and has helped me combat many a cold and flu.

Jungle Juice

1 lg clove garlic crushed

 1 tsp grated fresh ginger

Juice of a lemon

1-2 Tsp Honey (Manuka if you have it)

1 chilli chopped finely. (Optional)

Few drops Grapefruit Extract (Optional)

Place crushed garlic, chopped chilli and ginger into an tea infuser, put the lemon and honey into a tall glass and put the infuser in and fill with boiling water, allow to steep for 5 minutes then drink.

NB a nip of whiskey or brandy in the night time juice will help you to sweat this out over night.

This drink should be repeated 3-4 times a day.

TIP 1:

Use handkerchiefs instead of tissues, this will stop the sore burning lips and nose. Tissues are made from Trees, imagine wiping your face on a tree yeah not a good vision ah!! Well that is what you are doing, no wonder your nose and lips feel like crap.

Handkerchiefs are easy to clean and sterilise, just put in a heat proof bowl with a tsp of table salt and poor over boiling water, leave to soak for 10 minutes the rinse and all the nasty matter will come off with ease.

Some of the old fashion techniques are the best. Handkerchiefs are made of a very fine cotton or linen and dry very fast.

TIP 2:

If you are really blocked up with mucus then flush your nasal passages with saline solution. To do this just boil 1 cup water, add 1/2 tsp table salt, stir to dissolve and allow to cool. Put the saline solution into a plastic squeeze bottle with a nozzle that will fit into your nostril. Now you squirt this saline solution into the nostril and sniff up at the same time. This will wash and cleanse the mucus and make it easier to blow out.

Warning it feels rather weird but it really works, so give it a go.

Well I hope this blog will help you to beat the flu with out having to go to the Dr. or take Pharmaceuticals.
